The Effect Of 70S Costumes In Fashion Industry

A lot of people have begun to realise just how stylish the Retro scene really is.

As we are all aware, fashion is very transient. It is constantly changing and coming up with fresh new ideas. However, it is also very dependent on previous styles. 70s costumes and accessories are very much back at the forefront of fashion at the moment. Even the images of many of today's biggest rock bands are heavily based around 70s costumes and their music has made a very noticeable return to the guitar based sound that was so popular thirty-odd years ago. Think about groups like Kasabian, Doves and Muse and then compare them with some of the big names of the 1970s such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, David Bowie and Marc Bolan. There are enormous similarities both with their outfits and their overall sound.

Fashion affects so many different areas of our lives. Some of these are things that are obvious to us all whilst others remained unnoticed for a lot of the time.

Another area to be very influenced by the Retro feel is cinema. You won't have to think for too long before you realise just how much. We have had a huge amount of remakes in recent years. Some of these are even still set in the time of the original movie, putting actors of today into 70s costumes. If you took away all of the films of the last five years or so that were remakes of 1970s pictures then you would be left with a lot less to watch. Admittedly, it was a time in cinema that was rich in very good quality films. Remember such classics as 'Get Carter', 'The Omen' and 'The Omega Man' - all of which have recently been remade.

Television also had some real gems to offer. Those of us who are old enough to look back on the programmes usually do so with great fondness. There always seemed to be something good to watch on the television back then; whether it was comedy, drama or science fiction. In fact many of those programmes have also been made into feature films as well.

Have a look at the celebrities of today and what they are wearing. So many of them are dressed in 70s costumes that you could be forgiven for thinking that the time machine had finally been invented.

Basically, fashion has gone full circle. Back in the 80s and 90s you would be hard pushed to find anyone wearing 'bell bottoms', flowery shirts or 'loon pants'. How things change. Suddenly it is not just acceptable to dress in 70s costumes but it is actually cool again.

So, have a hunt around in your local charity shop and on the internet. There are plenty of online businesses that specialise in nothing but 70s costumes.

One last thing that is worth remembering... don't go getting rid of any of your present day clothes as you can be sure that as soon as your children are old enough to wear them they will probably be totally 'hip'.

Find the teen party ideas and themes that you need for your child's birthday. Even though you've got a teenager now, kids still like to have birthday parties. The problem with a teenage party is finding a theme that suits the kids and the parents. But we've solved that problem. Check out the fun party themes we have found for you.

Scavenger Hunt Party...It is a fun filled adventure and teens will enjoy the thrill of the hunt. Choose the traditional scavenger hunt or choose a newer version, one that uses a video camera, a digital camera or even some Glow in the Dark accessories. Let your son or daughter help you write out the Scavenger hunt list and of course, let them in on the scavenger hunt clues...the clues that lead to all the list items! It will be lots of fun for all the teens at your party.

Mystery Party for Teens...Who dunnit? Let the teens at your son or daughters birthday party solve the crime. You can choose the kind of mystery party where everyone gets a costume and a character to play and has a script. Or you can choose the Sherlock Holmes kind of mystery where the group of teens has to solve a crime with the clues and evidence you have placed in strategic places. Sort of like a real life version of the board game, Clue.

A Teen Costume Party...Choose from some really great costume party themes. The 1950's is always a great era to visit. But so are the 70's and 80's. Space, the final frontier...have a Star Trek theme party. Let the kids learn the Vulcan greeting, Live Long and Prosper. You can also have a Famous Couples costume theme and let the kids dress up as old time, and more modern film and rock stars.

Twilight Party Ideas...Are Twilight, New Moon parties still in...YES! Any teen who is a fan of the Stephenie Meyer Twilight Sage will tell you absolutely, Twilight Party Ideas are still fun, fun, fun! Find trivia from the novels, make up your own trivia quizzes. Let the kids make their own Twilight apples with caramel, jelly, chocolate and crushed candy, nuts and goodies to roll them in. Party favors can include bags of blood...don't worry, it's candy, wax fangs and Twilight conversation hearts. Take a look at the stand ups of Bella, Jacob and Edward Cullen to decorate your party. Invite the vampires...at least the Cullen Clan, to your teen Twilight party.

Finally, the Karaoke/American Idol Party...Make sure you film the singing segments of this party theme. The kids will get into it if you use the right music. Check with your son or daughter and find out what tunes the kids all know. Everyone dreams of being a rock star...and the teens at your party will be able to make this dream come true.

Ms. Party Ideas is Jillian Gallo and she writes about fun party stuff! Find all the unique party ideas and cheap party supplies at http://www.partyideasparade.com/teenparty.html ideas can be difficult to come up with, but when you finally come up with the right theme for your teen party...It's like fireworks.

Check with your son or daughter on how to plan the best party for them and their teenage friends. You can find some great tips for a Halloween party or the Twilight theme that is so popular today at http://www.partyideasparade.com/twilight-party-ideas.html You can learn how to plan and organize your party ideas....all kinds of kids creative party ideas, delicious and easy party menu recipes and of course, fun party games is what you will find along with some great cake and cupcake decorating ideas! Make it yourself party food, invitations and decorations. Jilly also likes to play Pinata games so you can find out the game rules and learn how to play the pinata game too. Jillian enjoys swapping good party ideas with you, so if you have a great party idea...please let her know!

Pop music is often described in cycles: retro music becomes cool, then gets reprocessed and digested by listeners, until the next big thing comes along. While the 80's are (some would say thankfully) long behind us, the sounds from classic records from the era have likewise experienced a reincarnation. The second installment in this series aims to show how to most easily recreate a classic sound heard on many famous songs from the 80's through today: the unmistakable sound of analog brass.

While a sample-based approach is often most useful for some applications, there are times when you need that ambiance that can only be achieved through using traditional subtractive methods. Let's go step by step through the programming process.

First, let's establish default settings: Lowpass filter all the way open (100%), envelopes off, and whatever waveform is selected by default. By the way, these sounds should all be achievable on a modern softsynth or any piece of polyphonic hardware (although for a monosynth lead brass sound the same settings will apply.

As far as the oscillators are concerned, a rich waveform is best. Start with a sawtooth waveform, and if one (or more) oscillators is available, set them also to this waveform. It should sound nice and bright. For a two-plus oscillator synth, detuning each oscillator by a few cents (5-10 maximum) will make a bigger, denser sound. This is because the oscillators will now be beating against each other, which our ears interpret as adding harmonic content.

Remember to detune one oscillator up and the other down (or in a similar fashion for more oscillators) in order to make the mixed oscillators sound in tune!

Now for the filter. This is the most critical part of the classic 80's brass sounds, as the harmonic content tends to be an important aural "cue" for a listener that makes a sound more readily identifiable. Set the cutoff at about 50%, with a mild (10-20% maximum) amount of resonance. These parameters, and those which follow, are all subject to taste, of course.

Use the keyboard tracking parameter in moderation, as you only want the filter to open up some as you play higher up the keyboard. This is designed to emulate the characteristic muted sound as you play higher notes on many brass instruments. Other parameters related to the filter will be discussed below, so ignore any other filter modulation parameters (envelope, LFO, etc.) for now. If there is a highpass filter, pull it up in moderation to thin out the brass some. This is optional, but often makes a big patch sit better in a mix.

On to the envelopes. If you are using a two-envelope machine, so much the better, but really only one envelope is neccesary to achieve many of these sounds. As technology has progressed further, often times one is tempted to use more oscillators, more filters, effects, etc. to make synthesizer-based music.

However, working within the limitations offered by some of this now-ancient equipment can still result in very satisfying sounds, if a bit simple by modern standards. With this in mind, set your filter envelope to have the following parameters: medium attack (about 35-50%), a fairly quick decay (around 15-20%), sustain at half, and a moderate release (depending on your playing style and needs, adjust this to quicker values for a more percussive, horn stab-type sound). Play around with the attack and decay settings to optimize your envelopes (which vary in terms of speed) to get a sound with a quick swell in brightness, followed by a more muted sustaining sound.

Now, for LFO modulation(may also be called Vibrato), you may want to use a small amount of modulation on the oscillator pitch. If a delay parameter is available for the LFO, pull it back to about 50%, so as to smoothly transition from an initially in tune sound, to a progressively more quavery sound as you continue to hold notes down. This can add a bit of 80's cheese, so use it tastefully. Also, if a chorus is available, brass sounds can benefit greatly. Enjoy, and hopefully these instructions will put you on the right track to achieving some great 80's brass.

Kerchoonz Scraps Artist Fee During Unsigned Competition

Kerchoonz.com - the much anticipated answer to the music industry's current downloading problem - is to scrap its artist sign-up fee for Christmas.

The groundbreaking new website, swamped by over 8 million hits and 80,000 unique visitors in November, is scrapping its £12.50 fee to mark the start of Kerchoonz Live - a month long competition to find the hardest working unsigned acts on the circuit.

Bands and artists have until the end of December to use Kerchoonz.com to promote themselves and earn money in a bid to bag a recording session at a famous Glasgow studio. As well as being able to record three tracks at the hands of top producer Ian Morrow (Wet Wet Wet, Rod Stewart, Seal), acts will get to keep all money earned from plays and downloads on Kerchoonz.com.

"I can imagine it's going to be huge and why not?" says former Stereophonics star Stuart Cable. "Becoming a professional musician in a band is the hardest job in the world - so to do it this way is great."

The social media platform lets registered artists and songwriters share their music and videos with fans while getting paid for every stream and download through a combination of the ISRC and play counts by utilizing unique coding and encryption within the application. Kerchoonz pays unsigned acts half a penny for every play and up to 10p for every download - by far the largest payments available to any act choosing to give away their music online.

Artists can even earn money by recommending other musicians to the site and, with no limit on the number of people you can recommend, it's the hardest working acts that will reap the greatest rewards.

"Kerchoonz.com takes the world of online music to a completely different dimension by allowing musicians to earn money from their work without being exploited" says Co-Founder, Indiana Gregg.

Kerchoonz.com is currently locked in talks with both independent and major record labels to bring further content to the site, providing a comprehensive music catalogue for fans.

"If bands and artists use the promotional tools we provide for them, Kerchoonz.com will act just like a record company. Artists can effectively ‘sell' their music without charging their fans anything for it," says Gregg.

Kerchoonz is a place where musicians, artists, film makers, fans, business people, and technologists can meet and exchange in a free and open environment. Our mission is to provide a social platform that enables all of us to explore and create, listen and be heard, give. receive, and discover. Kerchoonz was founded by musicians who believe that artists and musicians should be encouraged and also compensated for their work.

Evolution of Rock Synthesizers

The genre was called the new wave genre, when the rock music took a new turn and after that experimental rock music came into being in 1980's. This was the time, when various rock bands started using synthesizers purposefully in modern rock music. And thus rock synthesizers became popular gradually since then. But there was a time when, synthesizers were doing well mainly with the pop music, popularized by new wave leaders like Devo, The Buggles, and Gary Numan.

To get hold of the rock synthesizers, it is essential to know the base and a bit background of it. It was Robert Moog, who introduced the musician with a new world of unknown sounds with the invention of voltage-controlled and keyboard-accessible synthesizer. This further also gave them idea about sound production and control and thus curiosities increased and it began to enter the mainstream of pop music. However, the technological revolution experienced by the popular music made the performers to take advantage of the potentials of the synthesizers.

The synthesizer once was basically used for the same purpose as the electronic piano or an organ was used, just to make spacey noises in the background. Then came the synthesizers that were pushed to the front stage. This made the players dress in casual suits and platform shoes. However, by the early 70's, many rock groups like, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and Tangerine Dream etc., started using the rock synthesizers explicitly due to its unique range of sounds. It was the rock-based form that mainly influenced their development in the next decade.

The 1980's were the growing period of the underground music and thus the growth of the rock synthesizers, which resulted in increased use of the synths by more and more bands. Infact, many artists began to be known as synth rock artists. This is the same period that added new style and genres to the rock music, such as Goth rock and new wave. Or it can be said that it was the period that gave birth to new experimentations with help of the synth rocks and thus experimental rock music came into being.

Experimental music means a new kind of sound emerging out of the mixture of existing rock music and the sounds from the new rock synthesizers. The outcome of this experimentation is the album, The Residents (or Meet the Residents). But somehow, it failed to please the audience at the beginning, as they were not ready to accept anything except the traditional ones, like the space rock, ethereal sounds, or the old electric piano.

In the next decade, i.e. 1990's, the rock synth changed its style of music. The style that evolved was basically the combination of 80's new wave, 80's, 90's industrial music, glam rock, gothic rock and heavy metal. However, after 2000's, the rock bands, or rather say synth rock bands were on the top of demand list of the people. Their experimental melodies influenced by the new wave music were successful in breaking the myth of the masses that rock synthesizers cannot rock them.

Does anyone know the name of this british band?

They used to have 4 members, but the lead singer died. They were pretty big in the 80's in England. They played mostly alternative rock/punk. After the death of the lead singer, the kept the band together and kept writing songs.

I loved this bands music, but I lost their cd and now I can't remember their name.
It's not joy division, the band I'm thinking of was around later in the 80's

isn“t it joy division??....Ian Curtis commited suicide but the band continued and changed their name to new order

damn it nevans 19.....you type faster
