Debatable Lyrics that Drew In Care and Unfavorable Judgment

Some vocals just couldn’t help but be Moot. Whether these songs and their Words were meant to be Contentious or not, they overseen to appeal attention and Criticism due to their hot complacent, own set, or supposedly poisonous purposes. The Unfavorable Judgment it Drawn In prompted the correct self-assurance to effect the record companies to alter detailed parts of the Words in order to foreclose further charges.

A old lesson of this is Britney Spears’ “If You Seek Amy.” When one reads the Lyric Poems nearly, the purportedly rank subject isn’t marked. Keep how the phrasal idiom “if you seek Amy” was snuck in into the Lyric Poems: “But all of the boys and all of the girls are mendicancy to if you seek Amy.” The Lyric Poems do not make signified; but one can decode its real meaning if the idiomatic expression was valued phonetically. Of course, many raises and alludes mortals have accounted the Lyric Poems of this song, particularly since it received gross airplay during its release. The masses behind the album have expressed their aims to change the Lyrics to “If you see Amy,” at least for the radio set.

Other vocal Lyric Poems are not as subversive in price of sealed meanings and mischievous paronomasia, but they found Literary Criticism and care due to their aim. songs that aim to criticize the politics or any form of higher power tend to accept this form of tending—peculiarly during the later years. Published by Bob Dylan, this song has Lyric Poems that openly criticise the Vietnam Warfare during the 1960s and, in turn, the government. The Lyric Poems urge mortals to treat peace rather than war, with the Lyrics claiming that “the answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind.” This part of the Lyric Poems is left-handed and cloudy —and it has a number of interpretations. It’s either the resolution, like the wind, is easy to dig since it is patent and thick; or, like the wind, it is unrecognisable.

A utmost look at the songs from the 70s and the 80s would show how a number of their Lyrics purportedly cite sex, drugs, and other subjects that were dealt sublime then and are still believed divine now by positive spheres. An lesson of this is Cyndi Lauper’s “She Bop,” a song that supposedly touches on to self-sexual foreplay. “They say I better stop—or I’ll go blind” in the Words of the song show that this interpreting can be right.

Of course, there are Controversial songs that do not inescapable have purportedly venomous Lyric Poems. Sometimes, they grew Controversial because of the animal nature of the song and the revealings taken in the Lyric Poems. An case of this is Taylor Swift’s “Forever and Always.” The song is apparently a break up song, with its Words have-to doe with to her break up with fellow singer Joe Jonas. Agreeable to narratives online in the amusement fights, Jonas broke up with Swift over the phone, in a conversation that survived less than a minute. The Lyric Poems of “Forever and Always” slightly touch on that story, although it Curled more tending because of the predictive and little nature of the vocal.

Are Homeschool Grades Stupid?

My son Kevin thought my homeschool grades were stupid. "Who's going to believe the grades my Mom gives me?" he would say. Then he took classes at community college! The professors gave credit for class attendance, participation, discussion, and homework. If the students scored poorly on a test, they were allowed to "drop" 1 test. A teacher declared that the highest grade on every test was the "100%" grade, and all the other students were graded on a sliding scale. I had won Kevin over! "You have been correct Mom! Your grades have been a lot tougher than college!"

Grading vs. Mastery

First of all, should you give a grade according to assessments alone, then you're doing your student a disservice. In high schools, including as some colleges, students might never be judged according to test scores alone. After all, a test only measures what you do not know. We are trying to express what our kids DO know. A grade is generally a mix of points, and if we do not grade having a mix of items also, we are putting our children a disadvantage.

As homeschoolers, we tend to move on following our children mastering the material. If you're a parent that sends math problems, English papers or tests back to the student with "please correct this" messages, then you've high expectations. I recommend that when your student does "meet expectations" that you simply give them 100% for that test or assignment. If it means you're giving them a 4.0 in each class, that's fine - as long as they meet your high expectations.

How do you give a grade when you do not give any tests??

The key is to consider how you DO measure your kids. Just between you and me (don't tell!) the methods we measure are often the same things we nag about. Isn't that a dirty little secret? Think about these phrases: "are you done with your reading yet?" (Yes? Literature Reading, 100%.) Or "have you finished your spelling words yet?" (Yes? Spelling Practice, 100%). Occasionally the items that we nag at them NOT to do are also methods that we evaluate. For instance, "Kevin, will you PLEASE leave that chessboard alone!" (Daily Chess Exercise, 100%) or "Alex, get away from the piano!" (Piano Exercise, 100%).

Whenever you think of how you evaluate, consider every thing they do that you simply call "school." In our homeschool, I only graded tests in math, foreign language, and science. That was mainly a matter of convenience for me - these had been the curricula that came with tests! For all 28 of our other classes, I utilized other methods to evaluate my kids. What would they do in their every day work? For English, I decided to evaluate their reading and writing. For reading, I further decided to grade on areas like: reading, discussion, analysis, and research. For writing, I evaluated them on each paper, so I listed every paper by the title or topic (Emancipation Proclamation, for instance.) I didn't really "grade" the paper. I just edited it after they wrote it, and sent it back to them for corrections. Once it was carried out to my satisfaction, then I gave them 100%. Other times, I didn't list the actual titles of the papers they had written. Instead, I would list the Type papers they had written: essay, research report, short story, or poetry. Finally, I decided the testing they did every year for their annual assessment was also an evaluation. The areas on these tests had been "vocabulary, comprehension, spelling, mechanics, and expression." For every item, they scored grade level or above, which met my expectations (yup, another 100%!)

Whichever way I evaluated them, if they met my expectations, they received 100%. You are able to view a grading chart taken from a page in my son's Comprehensive Record. Just click on "Sample Course Description" on this page.

What areas do you use when you evaluate your kids?

You are able to give a grade for every test, quiz, paper, or lab report. Think about also these general ideas: reading, reports, discussion, research, every day work, oral presentation, composition, practice, performance, note taking, attendance, and narration. You might want to provide a grade for every activity they complete within a course. For instance, you could give a grade for each activity you count as PE hours: swim team, skiing, soccer, free weights, health, and softball. For music, you may want to provide a grade for lessons, exercise, and performance. In history, you could give a separate grade for every report, paper, or essay they wrote on historical topics.

I would keep conventional grades in Biology - mostly since Apologia Curriculum provides tests. Even so, my students would much more for that course than just take a test, and I wanted that reflected in their grade. I supplied a numerical percentage grade for every test, grading as suggested through the curriculum supplier. The other major activity in that course was their science lab. I decided to provide them a grade for each science lab they completed. If they met expectations, their grade was 100%. They didn't always meet my expectations, however. When my children did a lab write-up, I expected them to provide me a paragraph describing what they did, along with a diagram, chart, or sketch of the experiment. There had been instances that I felt they hadn't done their best. At times, I would give them 80%, or 90%, depending on my mood. Yes, it was arbitrary! But they had NOT met my expectations, and I wanted their grade to reflect that.

Don't all homeschoolers get a 4.0?

"Mom knows best" sometimes indicates that a grade will be a "B" or lower. When you honestly know that your child has performed at a lower than "A" level, do not be afraid of how it will seem on the transcript. Honesty will constantly serve our kids best, and a B can demonstrate thoughtful consideration of your grades. It says that all your grades are real, and you've considered every 1 carefully. You will find times when your honest grade will contain a B (or lower) on a test, or paper. Make certain the total grade on the transcript will accurately reflect every thing your student does, and each area that you evaluate their work. If they have an "A" for effort in a variety of ways (discussion, every day work, narration, research, lab work, etc.) be certain to include every thing they do. In the end, if the transcript grade is still less than an "A" then go ahead and write it down. There is no permanent damage from that! If it's honest, write it down.

I know that my grading system is 1 of numerous "right ways" to accomplish things. As the parent, you are able to choose the "right way" to grade your homeschool. I'm giving you this glimpse into my homeschool evaluations, simply because I believe it truly helps to see what somebody else has carried out. This is just a sample, for you to look at and adapt for yourself. When I started thinking about transcripts, I loved seeing each sample I could find! If you would like more samples, you may wish to see our "Sample Comprehensive Record." It lists each class, course description, and grading criteria for every high school class in our homeschool.

At times it's appropriate to present the nuances of the grades to a college, and you need to show that your "homeschool 4.0" just isn't a number pulled out of thin air. You would like to demonstrate thoughtful consideration to the methods you evaluated your student. You would like to display your standards and your approach of grading. Then let the college choose how they will use the grades, knowing that you simply did your very best to supply them with the information they require.

Homeschool grading is an art, not a science. Do not feel like you've to accomplish every thing exactly the way I did. Remember! Mom and Dad know best - particularly how to evaluate their own kids. You are able to do this! And I'm here to assist!

Most Samoans will know the story about Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III, Samoan Head of State who, in 1929, was shot to death in peaceful protest against New Zealand's rule over Samoa.

Well, all Samoans should know this story.

It began in 1914, when New Zealand took control over Western Samoa. The world was at war at the time (WW1) so New Zealand was pretty much left by the British to govern our islands however way they wanted.

By just about every account, New Zealand wasn't the greatest of colonial masters. Their general attitude towards Samoans was that we were 'childlike', and they imposed some oppressive regulations about who we could marry, how we ran our businesses and how much power our traditional governing systems (matai) could have.

Then in 1918, a deadly strain of influenza, called the Spanish Flu, broke out in NZ and spread to Samoa the year after, killing over 7500 people.

What happened was that NZ officials failed to quarantine a ship that carried ill passengers into Samoa.

It was typical of NZ's inconsistent governance of the islands. On the one hand, they set up strict policies to control us, and on the other hand, they were careless with our health and welfare.

Samoa had had enough.

In earlier decades, the Mau a Pule - a resistance against foreign rule - had formed in Savai'i to oppose the German occupation of Samoa.

That effort died down when the Germans exiled senior leaders of the Mau to Micronesian islands.

But now, against NZ rule, it was time for the rebirth of Samoa mo Samoa.

An afakasi businessman and statesman named Taisi Olaf F. Nelson became a founding member of the new Mau.

In 1926, he visited the NZ capital of Wellington to petition the government to allow Samoans more freedom to self-govern.

In 1927, Nelson published a newspaper called the 'Samoa Guardian' to support the movement.

In 1928 he was exiled from Samoa, along with two other members of the Mau, but he used those five years away to take his protests all the way to the League of Nations in Geneva.

In Nelson's absence, the Mau continued to resist NZ.

Led now by the Samoan Head of State, Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III, they continued to use civil disobedience as a way to get their message across.

They refused to pay taxes, boycotted imported goods and ignored NZ officials when they visited their villages.

Then, Black Saturday.

On the 28th of December, 1929 Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III led the Mau on a march down the Beach Road of Apia to meet other members of the movement who had just returned from deportation to Auckland.

The peaceful demonstration erupted into violence when the NZ military police opened fire on the marchers. Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III rushed to the front of the crowd and urged his people - who had begun to throw rocks - to be still, 'filemu'.

A single bullet from behind brought him down.

Other Samoan men who rushed to help the leader were also killed. When it was over, 8 people were dead (3 died later) and around 50 were injured.

As he lay dying, Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III continued to plead for peace:

"My blood has been spilt for Samoa. I am proud to give it. Do not dream of avenging it, as it was spilt in peace. If I die, peace must be maintained at any price."

So that's the story.

Because the New Zealand administration launched a cover-up campaign after the events of Samoa's Black Saturday, the story had to be pieced together over the decades from various accounts.

You'll probably find the most thorough re-telling of this dark passage of Samoan history in a book called, 'Black Saturday: New Zealand's tragic blunders in Samoa,' by NZ-born Pacific journalist Michael Field.

In his research, Michael Field came across an Auckland woman, now in her 80's, who was there in Apia the day Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III was killed.

Agnes Heeny was 7 years old when she witnessed the shooting, and the incredible experience [http://www.michaelfield.org/Mau%202007.htm] is recounted in an article written to commemorate the 2007 anniversary of the tragic events.

Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III is a significant figure in history because of his martyrdom in Samoa's struggle for freedom, but it is his legacy of peace that has made him a Samoan icon.

Day By Day At The Song Fest On Music Row

It's part festival, part music conference, part business networking opportunity and part gathering of old friends held in Nashville, TN every third weekend of June. The live performances, education and Open House are concurrently running events. Here's a day by day account from Friday morning and continuing on till Sunday midnight.

Day 1, Friday, June 19th, 2009
It's Friday 9 AM we start with some pro instruction. Richard Adler, Grammy, Platinum/Gold recording engineer & producer talks about the nitty gritty of being in the music biz. Then Dave Gibson shares some insights and plays a few songs that have worked for him. (Texas Tattoo, Big Heart, Red White and Blue Collar, Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys, Queen Of Memphis, Daddy Never was the Cadillac Kind, Ships That Don't Come In, Jukebox In My Mind, Lonely & Gone). Following Dave is Stan Webb, SESAC Legacy Award. "I'm From the Country"(and I like it that way.), and other commercial successes. Stan talks about the realities of becoming a long term professional songwriter.

After Lunch, Steven Sharp's inside knowledge from successes of running a major label talks about, "The Politics of Getting a Song Heard and Cut". Next, entertainment law expert Bill Whitacre will take your questions on copyrights, rules on co-writing and collaboration, publishing, artist deals, digital rights and more. Finally, wrapping up the afternoon session is Radio Host Karen Reynolds, who will speak on "The business and skills of the performing songwriter".

Friday afternoon @ 5:30 PM we begin firing off the stages. Starting at the Curb Music parking, lot, it's time to begin the non stop original tunes till Sunday midnight! There are scheduled featured writer segments intermingled with regular writers. About 6:30 the writers start finding their place in the mix at the various Video, Web Cast and other outdoor theme venues. Unscheduled Create-A-Rounds pop up throughout the evening. Some writers browse a Booth or drop off their CDs to display at the Writer's Table. The stages hum till about 2 AM. As the evening winds down the hard core gather and play unplugged at the after hours Open Sing Ring. Thus begins a life changing weekend, so pace yourself.

Day 2, Saturday, June 20th, 2009
It's Saturday morning @ 10 AM, the Writers who got some rest are up-and-about getting first hand experience of the Row. The second day of the Pro Instructors classes starts with a Guitar workshop with Dave Isaacs "Driving The Groove." Next Debi Champion gives pointers on "How to Host a Successful Writers Night". Lisa Aschmann explains her concepts behind the book, "1000 Songwriting Ideas." Pete & Pat Luboff will tell ya why "Collaboration is the Key to getting songs cut." and Tirk Wilder rounds things off doing Song Critiques for students.

Also at 10 AM on Saturday the Open House begins. Fest Heads will be able to drop by participating recording studios, producers, publishers, publicists, consultants, managers, duplicators, and other trade related music businesses on or near the Row. These businesses will have an "Open Door Policy" from 10 AM-6 PM June 20th and 21st. These established Music Row businesses will offer tours of their facilities and answer questions about "What part they play in the biz?" Writers are encouraged to drop off and pick up samples of each others works.

Around noon, live music begins filling the Row again and the booths are open for traffic. Little clusters of writers develop, each sharing stories and talking shop. Everyone is laid back and having a meaningful experience thanks to the no contest, no talent search emphasis of the fest, making for a more relaxing atmosphere. At some point we present the Life Time Achievement award to the festival Grand Master. Last year Tom T. Hall took the honors and was presented the keys to Music Row. The stages close down again at 2 AM and the really late niters head for the after hours Open Sing Ring to watch the sun rise. By the end of the second day, Fest Heads have been effectively scattered from one end of the Row to the other.

Day 3, Sunday, June 21st, 2009
It's Sunday Morning 8 AM and thus begins a special Christian Music Segment at the Curb Music Parking Lot. A special emphasis on Contemporary Christian related music is pursued till noon.

10 AM, Survivors from Friday and Saturday hit the Row again! The Sunday session of the Open House begins. Fest Heads loaded down with business cards, CD's and goodie bags take advantage of the "Open Door Policy" till 6 PM.

10:30 AM, The 3rd day of Pro Instruction kicks off again and runs till about 6 PM. Starting things out is a guitar workshop by master Denny Sarokin. Then find out how to be "Ready for the Row" with Barbara Cloyd. After Barb, Bob Dellaposta will speak on "How to start and maintain a publishing company." Also critically acclaimed author and songwriter C J Watson will talk on "Everything Songwriting". Finally 15 year Music Row veteran Jo Crowe will help ya get your stuff ready to plug from publisher to label & also do song critiques for the gang.

At Noon all the stages begin firing back up, booths are open and everything hums along as usual. Some of the late-niter's begin straggling in and the party continues. Go with the flow, 12 more hours to go.

At 6 PM. If anyone wants to get married at the Fest then this is the time we do it, free of charge. Festival provides a Hall of Famer to minister the ceremony. The bride and groom read a poem or play a special tune to each other on stage, kiss and then head off to a reception nearby. Don't worry. I think there will be plenty of live entertainment.

In the evening about 8 PM we start winding down the video, web cast and other stages and Southern Fried Fest Heads start gravitating to the Curb Music Parking Lot as we get ready to Jam till midnight. Having gotten our musical fill, we yearn no more. Little elves clear the row of gear, stages, and by the next day it's like we never existed.

The week following the Fest some writers are still hanging around the Row, following up on leads and cementing plans for the future. For better or worse, at least you know your way around now.

The Nashville SongWriters Festival is many happenings in one. ASCAP, SESAC and BMI writers of all genres come together. Publishers, recording studios, producers, song pluggers, managers, and others are in attendance as a broad spectrum of the industry, past, present and future will be there getting the feel. Take in all or parts of the Fest and "Play it by ear".

Writers are encouraged to come as they are and find their place in the mix. Everyone who comes to the fest will have an opportunity to share their original lyrics, song or music. There are no set pre qualifications to play and no set registration fee to attend the Fest. Each individual determines how they can contribute to help be a part of this music magic. Many special guests and surprises await but the real featured writer is you.

So step outside the cliques and come hang with the gang. If you have a talent to contribute, the call goes out. Invite yourself to be a part of Music City history. The fest is now accepting sign ups for the June 2009 season. Throw down at this years congregation to celebrate the spirit of the songwriter.

The 3 day music peoples gathering is hosted by SongWritersFestival.com. Music Fans and the general public are also invited to attend. Plenty of free parking. Levi advert music?

I would like to find out the music to a levi advert shown in the uk around 12 years ago. it was an ad where a red indian was driving a truck on some dark dusty road and if i remember correctly another indian was inside a wood cabin and washing his face from a bowl as the truck pulls up. I think the song had the lyric of 'I am the passenger" but it was not Iggy Pop, I know this is vague, but it has been bugging me. I know the ad came out just before the space cowboy and boombastic ads. please help.....

It was Siouxsie and the Banshees.
It was a minor hit for them in 1987.

The widespread of rock and punk songs across the world is not as rapid as pop genre but they're truly controversially known as widely listened by funky and wacky teenagers and liberated crowds. You may have heard of groups called Fallout Boy and Metallica. They're just two of the many contemporary rock artists and bands that pave way for liberation and loudness in terms of music. The earlier bands to be known are Sex Pistols and the Scientists. Following a proto-punk genre in the late 1960's, the punk rock music history kicked off when Ramones Band led the way in said genre.

Rebellion, liberation and victory are the usual themes of punk and rock tunes. Back in the 70's, punk rock music history revealed that the masses never really appreciated the roughness of instrumentals and politically controversial approach of punk rock. In the United Kingdom, early punk bands failed to win the hearts of song fanatics. They didn't establish mainstream success quite easily not until the late 90's due to the emergence of alternative rock tunes. Delusions, depressions and harsh revelations are reflected in the lyrics of punk rock, which is why only certain groups of individuals could adhere to this line of sounds.

As accounted in punk rock music history, the commencements of liberated songs were frequently debated between fanatics of ballads and lovers of alternative rock. There have been varying opinions about punk rock. Some say that they are garage tunes, which actually started when the band called Sonics played without defined musicals, no instrumental standards and lack of music rules. More bands like MC5, Velvet Underground and Stooges made their debut in the late 1960's, and they created a more controversial and vulgar image for the punk rock genre. New York Dolls and David and Bowie delivered influential inspirations of rock and roll that's largely outrageous and far different from the approach that Elvis Presley established long before they launched their music.

At the beginning of 1990's, there surfaced to be a punk revival of a few bands that didn't quite had a good start 30 decades back. The format of punk rock music is usually straightforward and realistic depicting crime issues, government agenda, social ills and other societal struggles. In punk rock music history, Iggy Pop was deemed to be the godfather of punk music. It was apparent that revolutionary scene of music in the 1970's paved way to the distinctiveness of fashion and music style of rockers and punk artists which have their certain niche of followers. Such certain punk look is exemplified in leather jeans and jackets, darkened eyelids, long polished nails and sporty get-up has remained to be apparent among famous punk artists of today's generation.

Gary Pearson is an accomplished niche website developer and author.
