Hamster Dance Music Video
I recently uploaded a video to facebook, but it was removed due to "copyright infringement"?

It had "hamster dance" as the background music which is probably the reason, but I have friends who have uploaded videos with music in the background, and I have too in the past, is there any particular reason why I can't this time, or any way I can get round it?
nobody reported it, facebook noticed it before it was made public.

Your friends were lucky, you weren't, simple as that. Theoretically they should have all been removed, but they don't get removed if no-one reports them. You could set the permissions so that only your friends can view the video, that would reduce the chances of anyone reporting it (at some point during uploading there should be a drop down box with Everyone in it, choose another option)

As well as a host of popular long-running London musicals, there are new musicals opening in London's West End theatres all the time, with plenty of exciting new shows coming soon! Mark your diary and book your theatre tickets early to be among the first to see one of these fantastic new London musicals.

All the Fun of the Fair

David Essex's sparkling new musical All the Fun of the Fair opened at London's Garrick Theatre on 18 April. Featuring the man himself performing some of his greatest hits, this hot new musical promises to be a real treat for fans. The story is inspired by David Essex's debut album, and tells the tale of a widower funfair owner and his wayward son. Tickets are on sale now and selling quick!

Sweet Charity

Having been a sell-out hit at London's Menier Chocolate Factory last year, the West End transfer of Sweet Charity is sure to be a big success at the Theatre Royal Haymarket when it opens on 23 April. With Tamzin Outhwaite playing the title role, this feel-good London musical is packed with classic hits like Hey, Big Spender. Based on the book by Neil Simon, the musical follows the romantic misadventures of the gullible Charity Hope Valentine, who always gives her heart to the wrong man.

The Fabulous Flutterbys

A fantastic new puppet show musical will be brought to life at the renowned Little Angel Theatre in North London from 1 May. The Fabulous Flutterbys follows the adventures of two hungry caterpillars as they search for their friend, meeting many fascinating creatures along the way. The music and lyrics are composed by jazz legend Barb Jungr, so accompanying adults are in for as much of a treat as the kids!

The Fantasticks

A brand new production of a musical classic is coming soon to London. The Fantasticks first opened in New York in 1960, and with an incredible 42-year run it is the longest running musical in history. Featuring music by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, this much-loved musical is loosely based on the play The Romancers, but also draws influences from Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The musical will open at London's Duchess Theatre on 24 May.

Into the Woods

London's magical Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park will host an intriguing musical from 5 August. Into the Woods takes some of the popular Brothers Grimm fairytales like Red Riding Hood and Cinderella and gives them a dark and humorous twist. With music by Stephen Sondheim of Sweeney Todd fame and co-direction by Timothy Sheader and Liam Steel, this promises to be a great version of a Broadway classic.

Flashdance: The Musical

With choreography by the acclaimed Arlene Phillips, Flashdance: The Musical will feature some of the most memorable hits of the 80s, plus 10 new songs created specially for the musical. Run's House: 'run's House' Star Teams Up With Kid Rock

Joseph Simmons, more popularly known by his self-declared show business moniker of Reverend Run, is a longtime veteran and pillar of the rap music industry. Nowadays, one of his latest musical collaborations will be with Robert James Richie, better known as the musician Kid Rock. Simmons and Richie will be working together on an album titled Running With The Kid, a play on the title of the earlier album Riding With The King by B.B. King and Eric Clapton. During an interview with the website G4tv.com earlier this year, Simmons explained that the similarity of their styles led to the decision to try working together and see what would come of it.

Also according to Simmons, Kid Rock is a major fan of Run-D.M.C., the seminal rap group that Simmons formed during the 80s together with Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels and the late Jason Mizell. On the other hand, the self-styled reverend added that he has grown to understand and appreciate Kid Rock's music in return. They planned to begin production of their joint venture in Detroit. The new season of the reverend's own reality television series, Run's House, will likewise feature a new album he's been working on. It's yet to be confirmed whether the new album will be Running With The Kid, or a different Simmons project entirely.

For his part, Richie stated that he's been focusing on lyrics, melody, and songwriting. He considers writing rap to be easy, and finds more challenge in crafting musical melodies and songs that will stand the test of time. Like the classic performers, Kid Rock wants to release something which can still be appreciated even three to four decades from now. This is why there will be less emphasis on rap in the album, Richie says, though it will still be a rhythmic element thanks to the cooperation of Simmons.

Men’s Tees – Controversial Designs

There is a current trend with controversial designs in the fashion industry with men’s tees. Tees with obscure, foul entertaining slurs are becoming very popular. These Tees are usually worn my rebellious teens who want to stand out from the crowd and are not afraid of causing a bit of a stir with what the tee says. Many of these controversial men’s tees are sexist, politically wrong, tongue in cheek and rather funny on many occasions.

Controversial men’s tees are becoming very popular due to many different reasons. Because of what is written on the tees, firstly gets people attention, they read it, and laugh and you are noticed. It is human nature to like attention, and attention is what these tees give. Many of these tees say things that many of us think, but do not say, in case we cause a stir.  This is why they are even more controversial because you are not saying it; the tee is.

Many of these types of men’s tees are found online in a world where controversy is a part of life.  Many well known brand names such as the Gorilla Company and BEEF began life as underground tees until this form of style become popular.  For example the BEEF Company featuring frisky and humorous tees with designs borrowed from popular themes of the 1980’s; music, TV, politics, anything juicy and anything 80’s. This therefore shows that they have a clear target audience from the 80s, a time where old conformist barriers were broken and rebellious controversial entities existed.

The same can be seen from the Gorilla Company, which targets more of the teenage and young adults sector. This company in particular, has slurs and obscure language that is intended to cause disruption. One tee has an image of a stick man with no head with writing underneath the image saying “need head”. This is a highly sexually controversial tee as it give notations that the man wearing this tee is sexually active and demands that he needs notions associated with sex.  Furthermore the tee is bright pink so stand out like a sore thumb. This is a very popular tee as it gives off strong connotations of the male ordering and wanting sexual associated themes, however is made in a comical way. By being comical and with the use of pictures these offensive slurs become less offensive and funnier. This is why they have become so popular in recent times as many people laugh at these tees and not get offended.

From this type of tee is it possible to see that controversial designs are becoming very popular in today’s society. With many people wanting to stand out from the crowd and getting noticed by wearing satire clothing the demand is increasing. Many of these clothes can be found online at very good rates because they are made aboard etc, whereas if you bought them from your high street they are often a lot more expensive

Choosing & Booking Live Music for a Corporate Event

Function Central specialises in finding the perfect band for any corporate event or office christmas party even on the tightest budget - we've written this article to help you do the same!

Corporate events music usually involve entertaining people with a variety of tastes, so what sort of music should you pick to keep everyone happy and complement your event? Live music offers a huge array of choices for both formal and informal events, from covers bands playing the latest chart hits and time-tested classics for parties to sophisticated world music to accompany drinks receptions or business dinners.

Choosing the best style

Booking music for corporate events will make your event memorable and give your guests something to talk about long after the actual party has finished, but you'll need to choose from a lot of different bands! Different styles match different events: to thank your employees for a successful year, you might want a loud and exciting band they can sing along to, but for a quiet drinks reception or a more formal event, a classical quartet could be a better option. Between these two extremes there are tribute bands, Rat-Pack style singers, jazz bands, ceilidh bands and many other options. With such a lot of choice, it can be hard to know where to begin!

Let's face it: it's difficult to keep everybody happy, especially when you're planning something on such a big scale as the annual office Christmas party. A rock and pop covers band playing everything from Elvis to Elton John is a great choice for these occasions because they genuinely do have something for everybody - even the indie snob in accounts - and will get the whole room on the dance floor. Most of them can learn special songs just for the occasion, and will include soul and funk as well as rock and chart-topping pop.

If your guests love dancing, hire a specialist soul and funk band. We provide these in every format - from large bands with horn sections, keyboards and other additional musicians to solo singers with backing tracks. As well as covering classics by artists such as Stevie Wonder and Chic, they can pump funky pop chart toppers by artists such as Kylie and Beyoncé. Some can provide you with a whole 70s or 80s disco night, complete with costumes and light show.

You can take this further with a theme or tribute band. While some bands can focus on your favourite era, others will focus exclusively on a single artist, such as Elvis, Abba or the Blues Brothers. These can be fantastic ice-breakers, creating a great talking point as well as packed dance floor!

For corporate events intended for a wide age range - perhaps where you want your guests to be able to bring their children - ceilidh bands make a great focal point for entertainment. Most provide a caller, so that your guests can have as much fun learning the steps as perfecting them later on. They can also provide a backdrop for quieter moments, with a combination of ballads and folk songs.

If you want to create a lively atmosphere at your company party, but would like something a little more original to impress your guests, how about a Latin or carnival band? They're great for dancing, and some even come complete with dancers to show your guests the moves and help them join in! They are great for outdoor summer parties, and even better for providing some sunshine and colourful glamour to cheer up a dull day. Latin bands play music that covers everything from obscure standards that only serious devotees will recognise to chart toppers by Miami Sound Machine and Ricky Martin that all your guests will want to sing along to!

If you want the sophistication that world music can bring, but you're hosting a lower-key event, try a steel pan band, flamenco group or bluegrass group. These will impress cosmopolitan guests without drowning out their conversation and, as they are acoustic groups, suit outdoor cocktail parties and receptions very well.

If you need to keep the noise down, but still want to give your guests something to sing and dance along to, how about a Rat Pack-style singer? The swing revival has brought a new generation of tribute singers who can evoke a glamorous era, creating shows that soundtrack quieter events and provide compelling entertainment at a cost that won't squeeze your drinks budget too hard.

Jazz is a popular option for corporate events because it is so flexible: jazz bands can play exciting swing and bebop to get the dancing started, or provide a flow of sophisticated dinner jazz classics that won't cause indigestion! You can expect to hear your favourite jazz standards, with some groups also creating jazz versions of classic chart hits or learning a special song for you.

Once you've considered all the available styles and decided what would work best for your company event, you need to choose a specific band.

You can get to know more about a band by looking at the information they provide; most usually post a biography, photos, videos, samples of their playing and their repertoire online. Many will also provide testimonials from previous audiences, so you can see what other people thought. Covers bands usually aim to make their version of a song sound as much like the record as possible, though others specialise in creating new arrangements and medleys, or add acoustic options.

Many bands also offer a DJ service between sets so that the dancing doesn't have to stop, but this tends to be more limited than hiring a specialist DJ, who will carry far more music.

Choosing between a band and a DJ

A function band is a great way to enhance any corporate event, bring a spontaneity and excitement that recorded music can't recreate. Although function bands are flexible enough to work in almost any kind of venue, sometimes budget or space restrictions mean it can be more practical to hire a DJ. While DJs don't provide quite the same level of entertainment that you will get from a live band - though some create a fantastic light show - they offer a wider choice of music (our corporate function DJs carry over 10,000 songs to each event), and your guests will be able to make requests during your event. A corporate function DJ can also compere an event, making any announcements you require.

Finding a live band to suit your venue

When you book your band, make sure that they will stay in touch with you right up until the event, so that you can make sure they understand all your arrangements and accommodate any last-minute changes of plan. You'll need to let them know when you want them to start and finish their set, whether there are any special songs you would like them to include and what you'd like them to wear. Experienced corporate function bands will be used to working with events organisers, and are generally very flexible, though it always helps to give plenty of notice for any special requests! They usually bring all the equipment they need with them, but it's always worth checking this when you book.

Corporate function venues include everything from halls and theatres to tiny, intimate restaurants and bars. While some of these will accommodate live music easily, others might be fitted with sound limiters or need the noise kept to a certain level. Noise restrictions are common and a good corporate function band will have plenty of experience of dealing with these, adapting to most venues - even when this seems incredibly difficult! They can do this by adding or subtracting personnel, or using different instruments or equipment. Make sure you tell your band as much as you can about your venue (for example, stage size, size of venue, and any noise limiters) so that they can arrange the best possible show for you.

If you were a product of the 80s and are planning a 40th birthday party, focusing on that era may be just the right theme for you and your friends, especially those who are of similar age. An Eighties Night party will allow you relive those childhood or teen years and give you a chance to immerse yourself in the unique culture of that crazy era. Like, totally!

Many experts refer to the 1980s as the "Me" era - a decade of excess when things were over-the-top and people cared more about how they looked and what was best for them than anything else. Fashions were...umm...interesting, music ranged from Madonna pop to newly-emerging Punk, and technology was making life easier and more interesting.

Ponder the years of the 1980s and you'll no doubt remember the unique fashions that dominated that decade. If you choose an 80s party, encourage your guests to dress in that fashion and let them become part of the decorations. Rolled-up jeans and parachute pants were all the rage. Every girl had at least a few sets of leg warmers and slouch socks were a must. And then there's neon shirts, Swatch watches, jelly shoes, and dresses with big bows and shoulder pads. If guests don't have these in their attics or garages, they can check out retro second-hand stores for some good buys. And don't forget the big hair!

Decorations for that swinging 80s party should also include 80s music posters (think young Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, and Madonna), gold lame tablecloths, and plenty of bright colored streamers. Other fun decorations for this themed 40th (or other) birthday party might include popular toys of the era - some or which you may own and some of which are still available for purchase. These include Rubik's cubes, Cabbage Patch Kids, Micro Machines (tiny cars), Care Bears, Pound Puppies, My Little Pony, Masters of the Universe action figures, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and anything related to Star Wars. It's also fun to print out large signs featuring some of the popular expressions and lingo of the decade like "Barf Me Out", "Take a Chill Pill", "Couch Potato", "Eat My Shorts", "Most Definitely", "Righteous", "For Sure", and "Space Cadets." Sweet!

Depending on your taste, background music can range from Cyndi Lauper, Hall and Oates, and Air Supply to Dead Kennedys and Social Distortion. Consider renting a karaoke machine as part of the entertainment and purchase (or make) an 80s mix for dancing. Encourage a little break-dancing and a moonwalk or two!

For a girl party, you might think about showing some of the era's hottest chick flicks including Dirty Dancing (1987), Somewhere in Time (1980), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Moonstruck (1987), An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), Beaches (1988), or Terms of Endearment (1983). Serve plenty of popcorn and Pop-Rocks candy and keep the tissues handy!

Great 80s party games should include a rousing round of Trivial Pursuit. The game was first introduced in 1982 and there's a "Totally 80s" edition that can be purchased for use with the standard game board. This is a great game to play as individuals or in teams and it can last for a few hours. (Consider a shortened version if you're pressed for time.) Guests can also play "Pin the Glove on Michael" (just get an MJ poster and a white glove) or some Pac-Man, if available.

And don't send your party guests home without a few 1980s-era party favors.

Fill up neon-colored bags with mini Rubik's cubes, jelly bracelets and rings, fishnet fingerless gloves (a la Madonna), neon sunglasses, and a CD mix featuring your favorite 80s tunes.

Have a fabulous night!

The New Era of Scoring Films

The New Era of Scoring Films

Today's film industry is fast paced, and profit driven. Budgets are often burst without flinching an eye, and many times a budget never actually existed to begin with. If you are a film maker, director, or producer, keep reading for innovative options for score your film on a budget,

Before a producer starts slashing production costs he or she should take the following into consideration; One area that should never be compromised is the Soundtrack and score to the film. The quality of the underlying music can often be the success or downfall of the movie. Need an example? Let's take the case of the 1985 classic 'Back to the Future.' Director Robert Zemeckis had already begun down the path of the Sci-Fi minimalistic score when composer Alan Silvestri stepped in and brought in a much grander and bigger quality to the scenes through large dramatic orchestrations. The director still credits the score for bringing the 80's smash hit to life.

In this era of the independent film, it almost always unrealistic to hire the services of full-out composer like Alan Silvestri. Many film makers are turning to smaller budget audio to bridge the gap when their pocketbooks won't afford them otherwise. Still, the quality does not have to be sacrificed.

NEW OPTIONS FOR TODAY

Today's Film Maker has the option of finding quality music of all styles in various places around the internet. An excellent example of available music scores for film can be found with Boxed Score Music. They offer a new perspective on the industry; the scores are offered in collections and each collection contains tracks that are relevant to it's corresponding theme. Need dramatic orchestral tracks for an epic film? Cruise the Action/Adventure Category and you'll find it. Have an offbeat, artsy film in the vein of the 'Royal Tenenbaums' or 'Eternal Sunshine'? A service like Boxed Score has it. Most collections are prearranged, but in the past they've been able to quote on a custom score via their 'contact us' form.

As film maker and musician myself, I've searched around and found that services like this are superior in cost and quality both. I highly recommend that you to check out the site if you are on a tight budget with little time.

So whether you are a aspiring film producer or a high dollar experienced big-wig in the industry, save your budget for something else. You can now get high quality film music without breaking the bank.

That's all for now. Keep Making Movies!

Given how prominent humor is in our culture, it's surprising that it doesn't appear more often in music. With some exceptions, artists tend to steer clear of humor or use it sparingly.

Joni Mitchell covered the jazz tune "Twisted," a humorous take on split personality that ends with the line "Two heads are better than one." Others have used humor to make a point in songs that aren't humorous per se. Tori Amos uses a line from an Eagles song in "Springtime of his Voodoo" and sings "Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, and I'm quite sure I'm in the wrong song." In "The Waitress" she sings "I want to kill this waitress," then "but I believe in peace, bitch." And who can forget the name of her ill-fated band, Y Kant Tori Read? (This calls to mind the ironic band names launched by the punk movement, such as Dead Kennedys, Chrome Dinette, and perhaps the best of all, The The).

There is an underground tradition of wacky bands, most notably the irreverent, dadaist Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention in the 60s and 70s; the robo-futuristic Devo and the surf music reincarnation the B-52s in the late 70s/early 80s; the experimental They Might Be Giants and the dark humorists Primus in the late 80s and 90s. These bands each pursued unconventional music and singing that creatively challenged the formulas of "normal" music.

Country music has a strong tradition of humor, originating with the corny jokes and elaborate skits between songs in the 30s and 40s. Puns and witty titles have been a long-time staple: "You Can't Have Your Kate and Edith, Too," "Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed," "She Got the Gold Mine and I Got the Shaft."

Witty lyrics are also a feature of rap. Missy Elliott in 'Work It" substitutes a trumpeting elephant for a word in the phrase "If you got a big ***." Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jef in "You Saw My Blinker (Bitch)" rap "there was this lady in a Pinto coupe, 'bout 90 years old I could tell by the droop."

Some performers have established careers around satirical music, including pianist Tom Lehrer with his wry cultural commentary in the 1950s and 1960s, master of musical-political satire Mark Russell, pop song parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic, and the sophisticated classical music parodist Peter Schickele (masquerading as P.D.Q. Bach).

The occasional novelty song makes a splash. Although most of these are forgettable, a worthy exception is the 1992 hip-hop track "Bushwack" by Tone Def, which cleverly samples speeches from the first President Bush. The syndicated radio show Dr. Demento, originating in Los Angeles in the early 70s, specializes in novelty songs from the past like "Davy's Dinghy," "Purple People Eater." "Big Ten Inch Record" (covered by Aerosmith at the start of their career) and satirical arrangements of popular songs by mid-century bandleader Spike Jones.

While it is relatively straightforward to elicit humor through lyrics or musical style used ironically, it is more difficult - and less common - to use the elements of music such as pitch and rhythm humorously. One example is from Steely Dan's "Your Gold Teeth," which makes a reference to mezzo-soprano Cathy Berberian and the difficult, avant-garde vocal music she sang. Following the line "Even Cathy Berberian knows there's one roulade she can't sing," the piano strikes a solitary high, dissonant note.
