One of a handful of films which epitomizes the 1980s decade, Ferris Bueller's Day Off captured the imagination of high school kids all across America as they dreamt of mimicking the title character's ability to manipulate the authority figures in his life. Written and directed by John Hughes, the brains behind The Breakfast Club (1985) and numerous other 1980's cult classics, Ferris Bueller's Day Off launched Matthew Broderick's acting career into another dimension. In fact, Broderick garnered a Golden Globe nomination for his outstanding performance. It's a nomination more than worthy of mention, because it's the strength of the Ferris Bueller character that made this film such a smash hit.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off follows a day in the life of high school senior Ferris Bueller. Nearing graduation, he's intent on living his life to the fullest (although preferably outside the confines of school). So Ferris takes a planned day of vacation with his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara), and after a little coaxing, his best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) joins them. Against Cameron's better judgment, the three drive his father's prized Ferrari into the windy city of Chicago for a day of fine dining, baseball, museums, and spontaneous fun. Meanwhile, Ferris may have successfully fooled his parents into believing he's deathly ill, but high school principal Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones) and Ferris's jealous sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey) are not so easy. Intent on shattering his golden boy image, each one is hot on his trail, anxious to expose his web of deceit once and for all.

With a number of hilarious scenes, such as Cameron's feeble attempt to reverse the mileage on his father's Ferrari, the film earns its reputation as an elite classic of the 80's, on par with hits like Back To The Future (1985), The Breakfast Club (1985), and Weird Science (1985). The film does have its off-the-wall moments, such as when Ferris takes over a parade and starts singing while thousands of spectators engage in synchronized dancing. You wouldn't see such a sequence in a contemporary film, and like similar scenes from The Blues Brothers, it tends to date the film. But the strength of Ferris Bueller's Day Off is not its timeless humor, but the likeability of Ferris Bueller himself. Ferris is a cool guy. He doesn't put anyone down, but only looks for the best in people. More importantly, he manipulates his parents into thinking he's the perfect embodiment of innocence while he skips school and goes joyriding! Every child of the 80's wanted to be Ferris Bueller, and the wide appeal of his life philosophy is timeless, which is why the film continues to enjoy success with each new generation.

Further solidifying the movie's status as a landmark of its decade is the soundtrack, which is certainly one of the more diverse and interesting of its time. Where else can you find The Beatles, Wayne Newton, the theme to Star Wars, and the 80's classic 'Oh Yeah' by Yello all wrapped up into one movie which moves seamlessly from one scene to the next? Throw in a few future Hollywood stars in Kristy Swanson, Ben Stein, and Charlie Sheen (who stayed awake for over two days so he could achieve the desired drugged out expression for his character), and Ferris Bueller's Day Off transforms into the quintessential cult classic. Even after two decades, this film is just as entertaining as when it first premiered.

Growing up as a young adolescent in the mid 80's, I faced alot of situations that I now look back on and wish I could turn back the hands of time. I chose my friends over my own family and had I known then what I know now, I would be well prepared for the things I encountered later on in life.

They say experience is the best teacher and that is so true because I had to learn the hard way. Once I was able to put my life back in perspective, I realized that the streets have no loyalty to you. It is the streets that brought me much pain and grief in my life and I feel compelled to teach these kids out here now that there is another option. They do not have to accept the negative stigma that society places on them as long as they stay grounded. I am a living example of this til this day and I hope someday that my book "Suspended In Time" will be able to help them understand that there is nothing out there on the streets but trouble.

I am often perturbed by the current attitudes of our younger generation since they have a lack of concern about their future and the path their lives are heading. I want to lead by example because every one needs to hear something positive every now and then, especially when the forces around them are all negative. The current state of our youth is dominated by people who dont care nothing about them, especially most of these rappers whom they look up to as God Himself. The harsh reality is those very same people they idolize and mimmick are not as real as they portray themselves to be. People have to understand that music is just another form of expression and just an art form.

These rappers are not gangsters because if they were, they would not be entertaining but I have to let them know that. They are not going to jeopardize their careers just to uphold some street image and these kids need to really understand that alot of what they see and hear on television is just entertainment.

Gastric Banding for Weight Loss

If your obese and are looking to lose weight and have tried diet and excerise then Restrictive surgery could be the answer. In a restrictive surgery e.g. gastric banding, the surgeon uses one of a variety of techniques to reduce the size of the stomach. After restrictive surgery, a person feels full faster, eats less, and hence will lose weight.

The full names for the two types of restrictive surgery for weight loss are:

  • Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding which id the most common form of restrictive surgery, and
  • Vertical banded gastroplasty

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding

Laparoscopic gastric banding is often called gastric banding or lap banding and is the second most common weight loss surgery, after gastric bypass.

Gastric Lap band surgery will involves the following:

  • Using laparoscopic tools, the procedure will place an adjustable silicone band around the upper part of the stomach.
  • Squeezed by this silicone gastric band, the stomach becomes a pouch with about an inch-wide outlet. After banding, the stomach can only hold about an ounce of food, so you will feel full alot faster.
  • A plastic tube runs from the silicone gastric band to a circluar device just under the skin. Saline (sterile salt water) can be injected or removed through the skin, flowing into or out of the silicone band.
  • By adding the saline the band can be tightened or loosened as needed.

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding can help to reduce your weight by about 40%  on average. So someone who is 200 pounds overweight could expect to lose an average of 80 pounds after gastric banding. However, these results vary widely depending on the person.

Gastric banding is considered the least invasive form of weight loss surgery and is also the safest too. The procedure can be reversed if necessary and the stomach generally returns to its normal size.

Gastric Lap banding surgery has a low complication rate. The most common problems after lap banding surgery include:

  • Nausea and vomiting. Can by reduced by adjustment of the banding.
  • Minor surgical complications occur less than 10% of the time. These include problems with the adjustment device, wound infections, or minor bleeding.
  • The risk of death due to lap banding surgery is about 1 in 2,000.

Unlike gastric bypass surgery, gastric banding does not interfere with food absorption but just the quanitiy of food thats taken. So vitamin deficenceny for people who had Gastric banding is rare.

Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG)

Vertical banded gastroplasty also involves a similar plastic band placed around the stomach. In addition to the band the surgeon will staple the stomach above the band into a small pouch.

Vertical banded gastroplasty results in less weight loss, compared with other surgeries and also has a higher complication rate. Therefore due to this vertical banded gastroplasty is less common today as approx. only 5% of bariatric surgeons still perform this surgery.

Mixed Surgeries (Restrictive and Malabsorptive)

Restrictive surgery is an important part of nearly all weight loss surgeries. In the most common weight loss surgery, gastric bypass surgery, restrictive surgery is first done on the stomach. This “stomach stapling” creates a small stomach pouch.

The new stomach pouch is reconnected to a part of the small intestine further down. This leads to less food eaten (restrictive) and less food absorbed (malabsorptive).

The Hacienda in Manchester was a legendary members-only nightclub that was arguably the most famous club of its time. Madonna's first appearance in the United Kingdom was at the Hacienda in 1984, which was the height of her fame if that's any indication of what kind of fanciful magic this nightclub possessed. First opened in 1982, the Hacienda experienced its glory days in the 1980s, a time that was dubbed "Madchester" in tribute to the musical awakening in Britain at this time brought on by the music played live at the clubs.

Owned and financed partially by the band New Order and its record label Factory Records, the early days of the Hacienda were surprisingly relaxed, featuring bands such as Ministry of Sound, Cream, and The Smiths. The late 80s saw the advent of the unique sounds of acid house and a new kind of party: the rave. The maniacal rave scene was highlighted by the use of ecstasy, laser light shows, and fast paced electronic music and it changed the landscape of nightclubs all throughout England. By 1986, DJ's playing house music had replaced live bands and the club gained world wide acclaim.

The turning point in the Hacienda's notoriety came in 1989 when a 16 year old girl named Claire Leighton collapsed as a result of complications from ingesting ecstasy, and died shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, this was the beginning of the end and after several rocky years, the Hacienda finally closed in 1997. An apartment building of the same name now stands on the spot of the original Hacienda at 11-13 Whitworth Street West; developers demolished the original building. The interior fixtures, including pieces from the DJ booth, were sold at auction in November 2000 with all proceeds going to charity.

Visitors to the site of the Hacienda today will find themselves in the city centre of Manchester, an area that is, not the least bit surprisingly, a hot bed of clubs and bars. Although Piccadilly Station is nearby, most tourists walk the area of city centre, which is quite small. With a wide selection of hotels, Manchester has a lot to offer the overnight guest. Local cuisine consists of anything from Thai to French to Japanese to Indian. Many locations match up an award winning restaurant to one of the finest Manchester hotels, so guests can opt for a night in after a long day of seeing the sights of this infamous musical city.

Debatable Lyrics that Drew In Care and Unfavorable Judgment

Some vocals just couldn’t help but be Moot. Whether these songs and their Words were meant to be Contentious or not, they overseen to appeal attention and Criticism due to their hot complacent, own set, or supposedly poisonous purposes. The Unfavorable Judgment it Drawn In prompted the correct self-assurance to effect the record companies to alter detailed parts of the Words in order to foreclose further charges.

A old lesson of this is Britney Spears’ “If You Seek Amy.” When one reads the Lyric Poems nearly, the purportedly rank subject isn’t marked. Keep how the phrasal idiom “if you seek Amy” was snuck in into the Lyric Poems: “But all of the boys and all of the girls are mendicancy to if you seek Amy.” The Lyric Poems do not make signified; but one can decode its real meaning if the idiomatic expression was valued phonetically. Of course, many raises and alludes mortals have accounted the Lyric Poems of this song, particularly since it received gross airplay during its release. The masses behind the album have expressed their aims to change the Lyrics to “If you see Amy,” at least for the radio set.

Other vocal Lyric Poems are not as subversive in price of sealed meanings and mischievous paronomasia, but they found Literary Criticism and care due to their aim. songs that aim to criticize the politics or any form of higher power tend to accept this form of tending—peculiarly during the later years. Published by Bob Dylan, this song has Lyric Poems that openly criticise the Vietnam Warfare during the 1960s and, in turn, the government. The Lyric Poems urge mortals to treat peace rather than war, with the Lyrics claiming that “the answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind.” This part of the Lyric Poems is left-handed and cloudy —and it has a number of interpretations. It’s either the resolution, like the wind, is easy to dig since it is patent and thick; or, like the wind, it is unrecognisable.

A utmost look at the songs from the 70s and the 80s would show how a number of their Lyrics purportedly cite sex, drugs, and other subjects that were dealt sublime then and are still believed divine now by positive spheres. An lesson of this is Cyndi Lauper’s “She Bop,” a song that supposedly touches on to self-sexual foreplay. “They say I better stop—or I’ll go blind” in the Words of the song show that this interpreting can be right.

Of course, there are Controversial songs that do not inescapable have purportedly venomous Lyric Poems. Sometimes, they grew Controversial because of the animal nature of the song and the revealings taken in the Lyric Poems. An case of this is Taylor Swift’s “Forever and Always.” The song is apparently a break up song, with its Words have-to doe with to her break up with fellow singer Joe Jonas. Agreeable to narratives online in the amusement fights, Jonas broke up with Swift over the phone, in a conversation that survived less than a minute. The Lyric Poems of “Forever and Always” slightly touch on that story, although it Curled more tending because of the predictive and little nature of the vocal.

If you want to become a music video dancer there are many things you can do that will make people take you seriously and enhance your prospects. Follow these tips and you won't go wrong.

1. Start going to a dance studio. The bigger dance studios will often have the best dance teachers so you should try and go there, if not many times a local dance studio will have some very good teachers.

2. Attend a dance college. Doing a 3 year course at a professional dance college can give you a strong all round training as you'll be dancing all the time. Many jobs will also only accept applicants who have been to an accredited dance school.

3. Seek out the best dance teachers. Whatever styles of dance you choose to specialise in seek out and learn from the best teachers. They can teach you things that a non-expert wouldn't be able to.

4. When you get good start attending dance auditions and castings. This'll give you an idea of the process and the standard you'll have to get to.

5. Speak to other successful dancers who are doing well and ask them for advice. Many times they'll be happy to give you some pointers. Even if you don't ask them for advice, just by talking to them you'll get ideas about how you too can improve your prospects.

6. Get good photos done from a good photographer. Photos that reflect you and your image, and how clients could adapt your image to meet jobs specifications are an essential thing you'll have to send out again and again and can help you get good jobs.

7. Get a dance agent or join a dance agency. You'll have to audition to get in but they can get you many good castings and auditions that you wouldn't normally hear about. A good agent can turn around a dancer's career.

8. Practise. The more you practise the better you'll become. The better you are, the more choreographers that will want to work with you on their next music video project.

9. Go to the dance classes and masterclasses of prominent choreographers in the industry. This can make you a familiar face to them and you can learn the type of current choreography being used in music videos at the moment.

10. Remain optimistic. Whilst not every dancer can be a music video dancer, many people don't make it simply because they just give up. There are many rejections at auditions and whilst one choreographer may not feel you're right for their style of dance, another will think you're something special.
