Gerald Levert Voices Pop Music CD Review

I can describe the latest release from Pop sensation Gerald Levert for you with just one word… Outstanding!

Voices kicks off with a great track, I Like It, that I suspect will be heard on radio stations everywhere, and deservedly so. It really is a very nice track.

Voices is a pleasantly varied, mix of 13 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly gifted artist. Most of the songs display a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Clearly drawing from what I can only imagine are him own personal experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions like love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard.

If you're even mildly into Pop music you'll enjoy this album. Overall Voices is an a great release. I give it my double thumbs up. You will not be disappointed with one single track.

While this entire album is really very good some of my favorites are track 2 - All The Times, track 4 - It Hurts Too Much To Say, and track 13 - So Alone

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - I Like It. Wow!

Kerchoonz Scraps Artist Fee During Unsigned Competition

Kerchoonz.com - the much anticipated answer to the music industry's current downloading problem - is to scrap its artist sign-up fee for Christmas.

The groundbreaking new website, swamped by over 8 million hits and 80,000 unique visitors in November, is scrapping its £12.50 fee to mark the start of Kerchoonz Live - a month long competition to find the hardest working unsigned acts on the circuit.

Bands and artists have until the end of December to use Kerchoonz.com to promote themselves and earn money in a bid to bag a recording session at a famous Glasgow studio. As well as being able to record three tracks at the hands of top producer Ian Morrow (Wet Wet Wet, Rod Stewart, Seal), acts will get to keep all money earned from plays and downloads on Kerchoonz.com.

"I can imagine it's going to be huge and why not?" says former Stereophonics star Stuart Cable. "Becoming a professional musician in a band is the hardest job in the world - so to do it this way is great."

The social media platform lets registered artists and songwriters share their music and videos with fans while getting paid for every stream and download through a combination of the ISRC and play counts by utilizing unique coding and encryption within the application. Kerchoonz pays unsigned acts half a penny for every play and up to 10p for every download - by far the largest payments available to any act choosing to give away their music online.

Artists can even earn money by recommending other musicians to the site and, with no limit on the number of people you can recommend, it's the hardest working acts that will reap the greatest rewards.

"Kerchoonz.com takes the world of online music to a completely different dimension by allowing musicians to earn money from their work without being exploited" says Co-Founder, Indiana Gregg.

Kerchoonz.com is currently locked in talks with both independent and major record labels to bring further content to the site, providing a comprehensive music catalogue for fans.

"If bands and artists use the promotional tools we provide for them, Kerchoonz.com will act just like a record company. Artists can effectively ‘sell' their music without charging their fans anything for it," says Gregg.

If your obese and are looking to lose weight and have tried diet and excerise then Restrictive surgery could be the answer. In a restrictive surgery e.g. gastric banding, the surgeon uses one of a variety of techniques to reduce the size of the stomach. After restrictive surgery, a person feels full faster, eats less, and hence will lose weight.

The full names for the two types of restrictive surgery for weight loss are:

• Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding which id the most common form of restrictive surgery, and
• Vertical banded gastroplasty

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding

Laparoscopic gastric banding is often called gastric banding or lap banding and is the second most common weight loss surgery, after gastric bypass.

Gastric Lap band surgery will involves the following:

• Using laparoscopic tools, the procedure will place an adjustable silicone band around the upper part of the stomach.
• Squeezed by this silicone gastric band, the stomach becomes a pouch with about an inch-wide outlet. After banding, the stomach can only hold about an ounce of food, so you will feel full alot faster.
• A plastic tube runs from the silicone gastric band to a circluar device just under the skin. Saline (sterile salt water) can be injected or removed through the skin, flowing into or out of the silicone band.
• By adding the saline the band can be tightened or loosened as needed.

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding can help to reduce your weight by about 40%  on average. So someone who is 200 pounds overweight could expect to lose an average of 80 pounds after gastric banding. However, these results vary widely depending on the person.

Gastric banding is considered the least invasive form of weight loss surgery and is also the safest too. The procedure can be reversed if necessary and the stomach generally returns to its normal size.

Gastric Lap banding surgery has a low complication rate. The most common problems after lap banding surgery include:

• Nausea and vomiting. Can by reduced by adjustment of the banding.
• Minor surgical complications occur less than 10% of the time. These include problems with the adjustment device, wound infections, or minor bleeding.
• The risk of death due to lap banding surgery is about 1 in 2,000.

Unlike gastric bypass surgery, gastric banding does not interfere with food absorption but just the quanitiy of food thats taken.So vitamin deficenceny for people who had Gastric banding is rare.

Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG)

Vertical banded gastroplasty also involves a similar plastic band placed around the stomach. In addition to the band the surgeon will staple the stomach above the band into a small pouch.

Vertical banded gastroplasty results in less weight loss, compared with other surgeries and also has a higher complication rate. Therefore due to this vertical banded gastroplasty is less common today as approx. only 5% of bariatric surgeons still perform this surgery.

Mixed Surgeries (Restrictive and Malabsorptive)

Restrictive surgery is an important part of nearly all weight loss surgeries. In the most common weight loss surgery, gastric bypass surgery, restrictive surgery is first done on the stomach. This “stomach stapling” creates a small stomach pouch.

The new stomach pouch is reconnected to a part of the small intestine further down. This leads to less food eaten (restrictive) and less food absorbed (malabsorptive).

The Hacienda in Manchester was a legendary members-only nightclub that was arguably the most famous club of its time. Madonna's first appearance in the United Kingdom was at the Hacienda in 1984, which was the height of her fame if that's any indication of what kind of fanciful magic this nightclub possessed. First opened in 1982, the Hacienda experienced its glory days in the 1980s, a time that was dubbed "Madchester" in tribute to the musical awakening in Britain at this time brought on by the music played live at the clubs.

Owned and financed partially by the band New Order and its record label Factory Records, the early days of the Hacienda were surprisingly relaxed, featuring bands such as Ministry of Sound, Cream, and The Smiths. The late 80s saw the advent of the unique sounds of acid house and a new kind of party: the rave. The maniacal rave scene was highlighted by the use of ecstasy, laser light shows, and fast paced electronic music and it changed the landscape of nightclubs all throughout England. By 1986, DJ's playing house music had replaced live bands and the club gained world wide acclaim.

The turning point in the Hacienda's notoriety came in 1989 when a 16 year old girl named Claire Leighton collapsed as a result of complications from ingesting ecstasy, and died shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, this was the beginning of the end and after several rocky years, the Hacienda finally closed in 1997. An apartment building of the same name now stands on the spot of the original Hacienda at 11-13 Whitworth Street West; developers demolished the original building. The interior fixtures, including pieces from the DJ booth, were sold at auction in November 2000 with all proceeds going to charity.

Visitors to the site of the Hacienda today will find themselves in the city centre of Manchester, an area that is, not the least bit surprisingly, a hot bed of clubs and bars. Although Piccadilly Station is nearby, most tourists walk the area of city centre, which is quite small. With a wide selection of hotels, Manchester has a lot to offer the overnight guest. Manchester is world renowned as the first industrialised city in the world, but the city also boasts an important cultural and musical heritage. History

Art Galleries

Theatres

The Manchester Opera House is one of three in the city's theatre complex, and has a capacity of just less than 2000 people. Productions hosted in the venue tend to be large-scale, touring shows, and have included West End shows.

The Palace Theatre is nineteenth century, Grade II listed, and comprises three levels, two balconies and stalls, with seating for 2000 people. The Royal Exchange is also Grade II listed, and specialises in classic theatre, contemporary drama and new writing. The Studio Theatre was opened in 1998 and has a capacity of 120.

The Library Theatre is an intimate venue, in the basement of the central library. Others include The Dancehouse, The Contact Theatre and The Greenroom.

Restaurants

110 Restaurant is a popular, fine dining establishment, located inside a casino and serving British and European cuisine until 1am. The bar and gaming areas are open until 6am and, for legal reasons, children are not permitted inside the building.

Shopping

Most of Manchester's plentiful shopping streets are entirely pedestrianised, and some of the walkways are covered. The Shambles and King Street are the places to find designer clothes boutiques; St Ann's Arcade is home to a number of prestigious jewellery, clothes and shoe stores; and Barton Arcade is a shopping and office complex. The Arndale Centre comprises 200 high street shops and several restaurants, with parking for 2000 cars.

Covering an area the size of thirty football pitches, and comprising four separate shopping areas, the Trafford Centre has been dubbed 'a temple to consumerism'. There is parking for 10,000 cars, numerous leisure facilities and a children's play area. There is also a multi-kiosk food hall, including a mini-Chinatown.

Sports

Manchester Aquatics Centre is one of twenty leisure centres in the city, and contains two 50-metre pools, a fitness studio, a workout studio, a health suite and sun beds. There is a full programme of classes and groups, including 'women only' sessions.

The Ten Acres Astro Centre comprises an outdoor Astroturf pitch and sports hall.

History

The Piece Hall was built in the eighteenth century as a market for trading textiles, and remains an important work of architecture in the region. Bankfield Museum and Art Gallery comprises 10 galleries and explores the region's manufacturing history.

Eureka! is Halifax's most famous museum, and an exploration of science and technology for children. The museum comprises 400 interactive displays and exhibits, documenting human biology, scientific development, ecology and the world of work.

Art Galleries

Halifax's main art collection is housed in the Visitors Centre and Art Gallery in the Piece Hall, and comprises works of art, craft, photography and design, with a new emphasis on crafts. The gallery covers a number of open-plan units, allowing browsers to savour the works individually.

Halifax's Bankfield Museum and Art Gallery comprises 10 galleries, and focuses on textiles and contemporary craft works that document the area's manufacturing history. Galleries include 'World of Textiles', 'Edith Durham Gallery' and 'The Toy Gallery'.

The Dean Clough Gallery is home to 600 art and design exhibits, and comprises The Viaduct Gallery, The Design House Gallery, the Crossley Gallery, the Link Gallery and a number of seminar galleries on the upper floor.

Theatres

The Victoria Theatre stages around 165 productions each year, and seats 3500 people. Previous and upcoming performances include comedies, musicals and dance productions. The theatre bar has seating for 120 people.

The Square Chapel Arts Centre is a painstakingly renovated eighteenth century building, staging drama, children’s theatre, dance, musicals, community drama and various lectures and talks throughout the year.

Restaurants

The Bore is close by, serving classic British dishes, and is also highly rated.

Nightclubs

Although there aren't a huge number of nightclubs in Halifax, there are a few very popular venues and Coliseum and Maine Street is the most popular. The club presents dance, r'n'b and party tunes, and opens three nights a week.

Shopping

The Piece Hall is Halifax's most popular shopping area, comprising 50 independent retail units and a large market square. A fleamarket is held on Thursdays, and an open market on Saturdays. Specialist markets include a Christmas Market and continental markets.

Close by is The Woolshops Shopping Centre, home to more than 80 high street shops and 300 parking spaces. Units are currently occupied by River Island, HMV, Miss Selfridge, 2 coffee shops and a cafe.

The Halifax borough market is located in a Grade II listed, nineteenth century building, and comprises almost 200 stalls.

The main shopping street in the town is The Market Arcade; lined with charity shops, high street stores and cafes.

Sports

The North Bridge Leisure Centre is one of eight in the town, and offers an extensive programme of sports, athletics, aerobics and martial arts. There is a large sports hall and Projectile Gallery, a gym and Ofsted-registered creche.

Another popular leisure centre is Halifax Swimming Pool, comprising a 25-metre pool, fitness studio, dance studio, 2 squash courts and a multimedia multi-sensory room.

The Halifax Ski and Snowboarding Centre is based in the Sportsman Inn and Leisure Complex and offers a choice of slopes for beginners and the more experienced, with a range of tuition available to suit all abilities.

There are 10 golf courses in Halifax, including the notoriously difficult, 18-hole Halifax Golf Club that offers a challenge to the most experienced of players. The Halifax Bradley Hall Golf Club is also an 18-hole course, but is smaller and offers a more relaxing game.

American Carnage Tour Tickets - Megadeath, Slayer and Testament go on the Road

It's a good time to be a dedicated fan of metal music, with some of the biggest acts in the genre currently going on tour. The Big Four—Metallica, Megadeath, Slayer and Anthrax—are due to perform in Europe in the near future, resulting in one of the biggest mash-ups of metal in modern history.

Of course, that doesn't do much good if you're over here in the U.S. But American metal fans have a lot to look forward to, as well. The American Carnage Tour is coming up this summer, bringing together three major acts: Megadeath, Slayer and Testament. The tour begins in August and will end over Labor Day weekend. More than 26 shows are scheduled in cities across the U.S., so expect things to heat up at the tail end of summer. They are also going to be hitting up Europe starting in July.

Early in 2010, metal fans were worried that some of the tour's dates were going to be cut from the schedule when Slayer's burly frontman, Tom Araya, was forced to get back surgery. It wasn't anything major, but apparently Araya suffers from Cervical Radiculopathy, a condition that may have been brought on by his trademark hair-swinging during shows. Fortunately, the condition was easily treated, and Araya is ready to get back on the stage.

Part of the appeal of this tour is undoubtedly the fact that two headliners are members of the Big Four. Megadeath, fronted by Dave Mustaine (who was himself a former member of Metallica), rose to prominence in the '80s as one of metal's most infamous acts. The band has gone through at least 20 members so far, but Mustaine has always been front and center, controlling the direction of the band. They were always considered pioneers of the thrash metal movement, and over a multiple-decade career, have released countless albums packed with hits.

Slayer is also a big name in metal music. In fact, they may rival Megadeath in terms of name recognition. Slayer's debut album, Reign in Blood, is known as one of the definitive heavy metal releases of the '80s, and one look at its pentagram-and-demon-adorned album cover will tell you why. This was a band that pushed boundaries with relish and challenged notions about how loud, fierce, and frankly scary metal could be.

Enter into this mix a lesser-known but still historically crucial metal band from Berkeley, Calif. Testament came up about the same time as Megadeath and Slayer, rocking just as hard and earning two Top 40 albums in the U.K. Their debut album, The Legacy, still stands as a prime example of late '80s thrash metal. Seeing them alongside bands like Megadeath and Slayer makes for quite an intense experience.

Altogether, the bands Megadeath, Slayer and Testament are three metal acts that no self-respecting metal fan would want to miss out on seeing.
