Selecting your music for your wedding reception should not be put off until the last moment. A successful reception is definitely a team effort between the bridal couple and the DJ.

Select all your "must do" music as early as possible. This would include the entrance music, bride and groom's first dance, father and daughter, son and his mother's dance, and bridal party. The bride and groom's first dance is usually their favorite song or some song that means a lot to them. Some ideas are: "My One and Only Love" by Louis Armstrong, "A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson, "It's Your Love" by Tim McGraw & Faith Hill or "In My Life" by the Beatles.

Bride dancing with her father. The most popular song is "Daddy's Little Girl", However, "I am Your Child" by Barry Manilow, "My Girl" by the Temptations, "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder are other favorite choices

Sometimes the whole bridal party gets involved. They could include songs such as "We are Family" by Sister Stedge, or "Everyone Have Fun Tonight" by Wang Chung.

During the cocktail hour, which follows, select music that is upbeat, so the guests won't fall asleep while waiting for their dinner. Perhaps songs by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald or Dean Martin. You could even include some big band selections, such as Glenn Miller.

During the dinner continue with Frank Sintra, but later change to Jimmy Buffet or John Mayer. Your younger guests will enjoy this type of music, and the older guests will enjoy the classic jazz melody. If you are planning on your first dances immediately following your dinner, the music should swing into high gear!

The next hour is just dance music. Try to play something for everyone ~ 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's, disco, classic, waltz, polka, rock 'n' roll, tango,

In the last hour continue dance music, but include group songs such as YMCA Songs, hip-hop songs, Congo Lines.

You should give your choice of songs to the DJ at least a month in advance of the reception. Ask the DJ what songs he has in his collection, and which ones he doesn't have on hand.

Give the DJ a neatly written list of songs which you want him to play. Also make sure you have the correct titles, or the wrong song might be played.

Now just sit back ~ wait for that great day and enjoy yourself!!!

Everything But the Girl always seemed like one of those ridiculous British names for disposable pop bands of the ’80s (see: Pop Will Eat Itself, Wet Wet Wet). But that band’s singer, Tracey Thorn, is definitely not making music for girls and boys anymore: this, her second album, is for mature audiences only.
